A falchion is a medieval single handed, one edged sword of European origin. The Falchion sword may come from a French word for a sickle, "fauchon". The back of the sword is either straight or somewhat concave and the edge is convex curve. Falchion swords can be seen in Medieval art being used against lighter armors by infidels as well as footman and even knights. The weapon is entirely European and was derived from the Sax. Some historians say the sword is related to the Dark Age long knife, seax or scramanseax. Some Falchions are shaped like a large meat cleaver or machete. Falchions are found in different forms from around the 11th century up to and including the 16th century. The Falchion sword is thought to be primarily a peasant's weapon and was used in everyday life when not in battle. There are very few actual Falchion swords that have survived to the present day. Great swords are infantry swords which cannot be used comfortably in a single-hand. The term "great-sword" has come to mean a form of long-sword that is still not the specialized weapons of later two-handed swords. While there is some overlap in terms as great swords are sometimes (correctly) called "two-handed swords", it is not historically correct to refer to all "two-handed swords" as great swords. Great swords were for the most part scaled-up versions of the contemporary long-sword with size being the main distinction: both were considered war swords but the great sword could not be used with one hand. These were exclusively infantry weapons and could not be used in conjunction with a shield. While terms do overlap, it is certain that great swords usually sported longer, heavier blades. Even 18th century broad swords - the curved-blade variety, akin to a thick sabre - could be referred to as great swords, though the term is used nearly exclusively for straight two-handed swords of the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Therefore, great sword is best regarded as a generic term, and it is important to remember that great is relative. Blade shapes ranged from "flat and wide" to "narrow and hexagonal" to "diamond shaped". Great swords were capable of facing heavier weapons such as pole-arms and larger axes, and were devastating against light armour. Long, two-handed swords with narrower, flat hexagonal blades and thinner tips were an evolutionary response to plate-armour. Our Great swords can be used for display or for battle re-enactments, each reproduction is created to the specifications of the original. The dimensions and weight are accurate on every piece so you get a medieval weapon that is actually balanced and fun to hold instead of just pretty to look at. The Knight sword also call the knightly sword was used in from the 12th through the 14th century. The knight sword has simple straight cross guard and round disc style pommel. A wide fuller blade made it a very fast and maneuverable sword making it awesome cutting power while increasing thrusting ability. The knightly sword retained enough lightness that it could be swung easily in one hand from horseback, but allowed the warrior to use the blade in two hands while on foot during hand to hand combat. This feature made the blade very easy to move quickly and very powerfully with relatively little effort. These new features of the knight sword made it an effective weapon against mail armour in the 13th century making it the most popular sword in battles. Long swords were weapons used mainly during the middle and late Medieval period. Long swords are both an offensive and defensive weapon and can be used for parries and deflections, as well as, cuts and thrusts. Cuts with a long sword are delivered either as slices or as extremely powerful chopping blows. Although it is primarily used with two hands, a long sword is still capable of being wielded with a single hand, allowing the off hand to be used for grappling, punching, and grabbing an opponent or his sword. Advances in armor technology toward the end of the Medieval period, specifically plate armor, decreased the protective need for a shield and thus freed up the off hand. Because of this, special techniques called half-swording were developed. Half-swording generally involves holding the blade of the sword in the second hand, which enables greater point control and increased thrusting power. This in turn enables the long sword to puncture heavy armor and stab into the joints and gaps between plates. Long swords were also known as war swords of the 14th and 15thcenturies. Typically 4'-4.5' long and weight between3-4 lbs, the long sword was designed with a simple cruciform hilt and a straight blade that was double-edged. The long sword was reserved as a battle sword(typically hung from the saddle as opposed to be worn on the belt) and not used in friendly joust competitions. Long swords were larger versions of typical one-handed swords, except with stouter blades. They were "longer swords", as opposed to single-hand swords, or just "swords". In combat, knights developed an offensive move involving the hitting of an opponent repeatedly with the butt of his long sword (the "pummel", back of the handle), which is where we get the term, "to pummel someone." Our Long swords can be used for display or for battle re-enactments, each reproduction is created to the specifications of the original. The Compasses symbolize things of the spirit, and the importance of a good and well-developed spiritual life, and also the importance of self control - of keeping ourselves within bounds. The G stands for Geometry, the science which the ancients believed most revealed the glory of God and His works in the heavens, and it also stands for God, Who must be at the center of all our thoughts and of all our efforts. The Roman sword of choice was the gladius. Most Roman Gladius Swords were of rather short length, typically measuring between 18 and 24 inches long, although longer swords became more common as the Roman war machine grew and evolved. Gladius were typically considered to be stabbing weapons, thanks to their vicious point and wide blade, although their manner of construction made them quite effective at cutting and slashing, too. Gladius were typically made in one of two different types, being either a Pompeii styled gladius or a Mainz style gladius, with the main difference in construction being in the shape of the blade. As the gladius evolved the blade became straighter and longer, changing more and more into the sword that would inspire later era weapons like the arming sword and the long sword. Some of the Roman Gladius Swords you'll find here are designed for battle and re-enactment, making them quite sturdy and effective (as well as sharp), while others are designed purely as decoration, either displayed in your home or carried at your side. Either way, all of the gladius swords you'll find here are modeled off of their historic cousins to feature an accurate and impressive look and feel. Just handling one of these Roman Gladius Swords will make you begin to feel like a Roman legionary.

The Short Sword also called arming sword refers to the single handed cruciform swords of the Middle Ages. After the 14th Century the short sword was hung from the belt of the knight, while the long sword hung from the saddle. The Short sword was designed primarily as cutting weapons to shear through mail and/or armor, these weapons were big but by no means unwieldy. Short swords typically were used with a shield or buckler. They were the standard military sword of the knight (merely called a war sword) until technological changes led to the rise of the long sword or bastard-sword during the 14th century. After these longer swords came into use, an short sword would be kept as a backup, for use when the longer swords were not available. This sword is thought to have directly lead to the development of the side-sword of the Renaissance. Short swords or Arming swords can also be classed as "riding-swords" (also "parva ensis" or "epeecourte"). It is this single-hand form which is so closely associated with the idea of the "knightly sword or knight's sword". The short sword is often distinguished a longer, thrusting, "anti-armor" blade from a one-handed "cut and thrust" type. Our Short swords can be used for display or for battle re-enactments, each reproduction is created to the specifications of the original. The dimensions and weight are accurate on every piece so you get a medieval weapon that is actually balanced and fun to hold instead of just pretty to look at.
